Meet Kid

Kid is a smart, sensitive gelding who thrives with patient handling and a kind, gentle approach. Originally registered as Gold Dollar, he came to SERRA from a Morgan breeding ranch before finding his home with our dear volunteer, Dawna, who adopted him in 2020.

For the next six years, he was a cherished member of Dawna’s family, sharing his home with fellow SERRA horse Cricket, as well as dogs, cats, goats, chickens, and ducks. Sadly, Dawna passed away unexpectedly, and we are now helping Kid find a new home where he can once again feel safe, understood, and loved.

Learn More About Kid

Throughout his time with Dawna, this gentle gelding proved remarkably comfortable with the activity of everyday life. He has been described as calm around young children, other animals, and even loud motorcycle noises. He has also been comfortable allowing young children to sit on him. In 2020, he cooperated well under saddle during beginner lessons, although he has not had formal training in approximately five years.

Intelligent and sensitive by nature, Kid learns best in a calm atmosphere with thoughtful, gentle horsemanship. Overly aggressive groundwork can make him anxious, so his ideal person will be someone who appreciates his sensitivity and offers the patience, consistency, and respect he needs to feel confident.

He is reported to be healthy and sound, with no observed lameness. His previous owner did note that his particularly hard hooves require an experienced farrier who can provide skilled, attentive care.

Having shared the past six years with Cricket, Kid is accustomed to her companionship. Although they do not appear to be a bonded pair, we would be delighted to find them a wonderful home together if the right opportunity arises. Loving individual homes will also be considered.
